Nils Frahm - All Melody
Nils Frahm was a new musical discovery for me in 2018, but he has quickly become one of my favourite composers. His style has been described as contemporary classical, drawing heavily on elements of minimalism and neoclassical music, but also influenced by ambient electronic music and even techno. All of this is apparent in Frahm's latest album 'All Melody', which is an incredible product of artistic expression, two years in the making. The album is full of haunting, but beautiful pieces of progressive music, much of which focuses on rich analogue-synthesiser patterns and textures, complimented by intriguing acoustic elements such as a choral section, a solo trumpet and a harmonium. Amongst the electronic pieces there are also several more calming pieces, comprised of highly nuanced solo piano performances that add moments of profoundly intimacy to the album.
